1. When did you have the chance to be in the movie "Scratch" and
how did it happen?
I was contacted by producers of the film Scratch about including a clip of my 2000 DMC performance maybe a year or so after that show. Unfornunately I used a Master P song in the actual show and he wanted too much money for them to clear the song so they ended up doing their own 'not-so-great' over-layed sound edit..still an honor to be involved. It has given me even more international exposure and has played on HBO,Showtime,MTV ect..
2. In 98' won the dmc battle. How do you feel the dj's performed in 2010 Dmc and
were you involved?
There's a dj named Steel from NJ who called me his main inspiration as a battle dj,which is humbling - he placed 2nd in the USA finals this year. There were some other really good dj's in the battle too ! I was hired to showcase which was a lot of fun. It was a packed house and I got to see and perform with some people I hadn't seen in years (Red Alert,ect..)
3. What current projects are you involved in?
I'm currently working on a couple of concept cd's,one called Mysterio's Sonic Wonderland (mixtape) and also Mysterio's Electric Wonderland (album). I also look forward to working with a new group called the Phantom Boyz from my hometown. They have great potential and their minds are not locked on the streets, which is rare & I really respect that. Last, I'm working on putting together a tour and releasing a my new DVD...
4. Documenting the works you've done, previous videos you have out,
Has it helped to serve as a template or to study new techniques of what your doing now?
To be honest, when it comes to my creative process I don't like looking back .One of my biggest early inspirations was dj Jazzy Jeff (of Fresh Prince of Belle Air fame for any who might not know) he said I was 30 - 40 years in the future - although I wouldn't rule out 'remixing' some things I've done in future's past...
5. Who are some artist who drive you to make music?
I get inspiration to make music from a variety of artist - MJ,Beatles,Hendrix,Q. Jones,Dre,Onra,Flying Lotus and other creative and forward thing artist..
6. How were you brought up?
I was born and raised in Newark,NJ . After a female cousin ratted on me about being involved in a gang (one of the biggest and maybe worst in the country at that time called The Avenues) my mother said she told my father she was moving us out of Newark with or without him, lol. About a year later we relocated to a suburban area of Plainfield, NJ .That same year I asked for a set of music equipment (turntables, ect) and I haven't looked back - thank god (tell Lupe hip hop may have saved my life too! lol)
7.What kind of responsibilities does it take to go pro on a Dj. set?
The biggest responsibilty for being a professional dj or performer is practice, the worst thing any artist or entertainer can do is to let their audience down, after they've paid to see a show. I'll practice weeks and hours sometime just for a 5 or 10 minute showcase..so sacrifice is really key...
8.Should Djing be in the curriculum in schools? I know a professor.
An artform like dj'ing would be great for a school setting, there are so many elements that can be reviewed, taught and expanded on..if I were to do it my class would be called the Mystery Mixing Course (but that's another story ! ha ha)
9.Do you believe in life in outer space?
The earth is in outer space and WE exist, so why not others ? I'm spiritual but for religous people - when Jesus said "my father's mansion has many rooms" he had to be making a reference to the universe having many planets, because what else could he have been talking about ? The universe is the only place big enough to be called 'god's mansion' and the 'many rooms' (planets) must've had something occupying them or else they wouldn't be worth a reference.
10. How about innerspace?
If the ancient saying 'as above,so below' is true.. then there must be life in inner space as well...
When you're doing something so different you take a chance on losing people who may not get it or are just afraid of change..so thanks to any and all who've supported what I do,and keep up with new projects at myspace.com/mysteriolightyear
